Great Reviews Say it ALL! 5.0 out of 5 stars This book changed my perception over horror stories March 9, 2014 By Robert Gibson Format: Kindle Edition From the beginning of this review, I have to mention the fact that I am not such a great fun of horror books. But I was recommended by my brother to read this collection of short stories. He stated that this will change my perception over horror stories. So, I started reading B.E.K. with a bit of 'fear' in my heart, because I was not quite sure that I will enjoy this reading. After finishing the first story (The Boy at the Door), I wasn't even aware that this book has managed to keep me so hooked. The second story was even more amazing. I ended by reading the whole book without taking any break. I noticed one common thing in all these stories: the intrigue is so well crafted, that will raise the interest of the reader to an unusual point. The fact that the action of these stories is fast paced adds even more reading pleasure. I highly recommend this book to all those which have not tried short horror stories until now. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Chilling read that will Make an Adult Sleep with the Lights on! February 9, 2014 By K. Eller Format: Kindle Edition-Verified Purchase This was my first time reading about the BEK Phenomenon. I don't know how I've never come across the subject before, since I am a huge fan of all things both supernatural and alien related but, I know I will be further investigating this subject! The first book I read by Lyn Murray was Blooded: Anunnaki Rising which was one of the best books I have read thus far and one of the longest! I found myself with an afternoon on my hands and decided to check in to see if she had released anything new and Found The BEK - The boy at the Door eBook and it spiked my interest so I decided to see what this was all about! I found it to be not only creepy, but quite interesting as well. She includes Four Short Stories which are based on real events and this alone sends chills down my spine. The encounters are chilling and well documented, but they will have you intrigued long after you read the book. I believe she did a fantastic job with this one, I couldn't put it down. I will say that I won't be going to any ATM's late at night anytime soon...And I will be a little more leery about opening my door as well. I think it was more than worth the .99 price tag and I am really glad I bought it. It just fuels my curiosity even more to do my own research on the subject! If you have ever wondered about the Black Eyed Kids Phenomenon then pick up this book and read these real accounts about people that have had encounters with these sinister beings-Simply Bone Chilling! Thank you for another great read Lyn! Description: BEK? Some say they've been around forever, and that this surge in activity is just a new twist on an old phenomenon. But what are they - really? “An Irish singer/songwriter’s powerful debut memoir about growing up . . . orphaned and abandoned . . . in Dublin.” —Kirkus Reviews Danny Ellis spent years trying to forget his childhood in the slums of Dublin and at the notorious Artane Industrial School for orphans. But one night, in the mountains of North Carolina, while Danny was writing songs for his acclaimed album 800 Voices, the past came flooding back. Danny was stunned to discover that his eight-year-old self was still trapped in a world he thought he had left behind. Danny’s haunting recollections led him back to the streets of Dublin, to the tenement slums, and, ultimately, to the malice and mischief of the Artane playground. What he discovered with each twist and turn of his odyssey would forever change his life. The Boy at the Gate is a brutally honest depiction of a young boy’s struggle to survive orphanage life, and stands as an inspiring testament to the healing power of music. “A beautifully written, heartbreaking story . . . I love this book!” —Sara Gruen, bestselling author of Water for Elephants “Like a true song, this story is finely crafted workmanship, unashamedly human with its pain and perplexity, yet unabashedly divine with grace and light and love woven into the tapestry beneath the tweed. . . . It is a treasure!” —William Paul Young, author of The Shack “A gifted writer . . . Filled with both winks and tears, this book proves that goodness can shine even in the ugliest places.” —Booklist

His debut novel, Company K, introduced William March to the reading public as a gifted writer of modern fiction. Of that World War I classic Graham Greene wrote: It is the only war book I have read which has found a new form to fit the novelty of the protest. The prose is bare, lucid, without literary echoes.” After Company K, March brought his same unerring style to a cycle of novels and short storieshis Pearl County” seriesinspired in part by his childhood in the vicinity of Mobile, Alabama.Come In at the Door is the first novel in that series. Before dawn one morning, little Chester is taken by his nurse, his father's mistress, to the courthouse in Athlestan, a county seat in the Deep South. A sensitive and impressionable boy, Chester watches in horror while one of his father's mixed-race servants is hanged as punishment for killing a hunchback he believed had laid a conjure” on him. The apathy of the townspeople toward the servant's suffering and execution play a vital part in Chester's fascinating development. Throughout his conventional childhood and rambunctious manhood in a port town, the gruesome memory of the Athlestan gallows hovers just below the surface of his mind. He recalls the gruesome details only at his father's death, when the book sweeps forward to its shattering denouement.

A 2016 Coretta Scott King Author Honor book. Just when seventeen-year-old Matt thinks he can’t handle one more piece of terrible news, he meets a girl who’s dealt with a lot more—and who just might be able to clue him in on how to rise up when life keeps knocking him down—in this “vivid, satisfying, and ultimately upbeat tale of grief, redemption, and grace” (Kirkus Reviews) from the Coretta Scott King – John Steptoe Award–winning author of When I Was the Greatest. Matt wears a black suit every day. No, not because his mom died—although she did, and it sucks. But he wears the suit for his gig at the local funeral home, which pays way better than the Cluck Bucket, and he needs the income since his dad can’t handle the bills (or anything, really) on his own. So while Dad’s snagging bottles of whiskey, Matt’s snagging fifteen bucks an hour. Not bad. But everything else? Not good. Then Matt meets Lovey. Crazy name, and she’s been through more crazy stuff than he can imagine. Yet Lovey never cries. She’s tough. Really tough. Tough in the way Matt wishes he could be. Which is maybe why he’s drawn to her, and definitely why he can’t seem to shake her. Because there’s nothing more hopeful than finding a person who understands your loneliness—and who can maybe even help take it away.
