The increasing centrality of memory to work being done across a wide range of disciplines has brought along with it vexed questions and far-reaching changes in the way knowledge is pursued. This timely collection provides a forum for demonstrating how various disciplines are addressing these concerns. Is an historian's approach to memory similar to that of theorists in media or cultural studies, or are their understandings in fact contradictory? Which methods of analysis are most appropriate in which contexts? What are the relations between individual and social memory? Why should we study memory and how can it enrich other research? What does its study bring to our understanding of subjectivity, identity and power? In addressing these knotty questions, Memory and Methodology showcases a rich and diverse range of research on memory. Leading scholars in anthropology, history, film and cultural studies address topics including places of memory; trauma, film and popular memory; memory texts; collaborative memory work and technologies of memory. This timely and interdisciplinary study represents a major contribution to our understanding of how memory is shaping contemporary academic research and of how people shape and are shaped by memory.

The main intention of this book is to give an impression of the state-of-the-art in system-level memory management (data transfer and storage) related issues for complex data-dominated real-time signal and data processing applications. The material is based on research at IMEC in this area in the period 1989- 1997. In order to deal with the stringent timing requirements and the data dominated characteristics of this domain, we have adopted a target architecture style and a systematic methodology to make the exploration and optimization of such systems feasible. Our approach is also very heavily application driven which is illustrated by several realistic demonstrators, partly used as red-thread examples in the book. Moreover, the book addresses only the steps above the traditional high-level synthesis (scheduling and allocation) or compilation (traditional or ILP oriented) tasks. The latter are mainly focussed on scalar or scalar stream operations and data where the internal structure of the complex data types is not exploited, in contrast to the approaches discussed here. The proposed methodologies are largely independent of the level of programmability in the data-path and controller so they are valuable for the realisation of both hardware and software systems. Our target domain consists of signal and data processing systems which deal with large amounts of data.

The examination of social memory and heritage tourism has grown considerably over the past few decades as scholars have critically re-examined the relationships between past memories and present actions at international, national, and local scales. Methodological innovation and reflection have accompanied theoretical advances as researchers strive to understand representations, experiences, thoughts, emotions and identities of the various actors involved in the reproduction of social memory and heritage landscapes. Social Memory and Heritage Tourism Methodologies describes and demonstrates innovations – including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method approaches – for analysing the process and politics of remembering and touring the past through place. An introductory chapter looks at the history of social memory and heritage tourism research and the particular challenges posed by these fields of study. In subsequent chapters, the reader is lead through the varying methodologies employed by presenting them in the context of an in-depth case study from range of geographical locations. The resulting volume showcases innovative research in social memory and heritage tourism and provides the reader with insights into how they can successfully conduct their own research while avoiding common pitfalls. This title will be useful reading for scholars, professionals and students in tourism, geography, anthropology and museum studies who are preparing to conduct research on the reproduction of social memory in particular landscapes and places or are interested in investigating heritage tourism practices and representations.

Embedded memories are one of the fastest growing segments oftoday's new technology market. According to the 2001 InternationalTechnology Roadmap for Semiconductors, embedded memories will continueto dominate the increasing system on chip (SoC) content in the nextseveral years, approaching 94% of the SoC area in about 10 years.Furthermore, the shrinking size of manufacturing structures makesmemories more sensitive to defects. Consequently, the memory yieldwill have a dramatic impact on the overall Defect-per-million level, hence on the overall SoC yield. Meeting a high memory yield requiresunderstanding memory designs, modeling their faulty behaviors, designing adequate tests and diagnosis algorithms as well as efficientself-test and repair schemes."Testing Static Random Access Memories" covers testing of one ofthe important semiconductor memories types; it address testing ofstatic random access memories (SRAMs), both single-port andmulti-port. It contributes to the technical acknowledge needed bythose involved in memory testing, engineers and researchers. The bookbegins with outlining the most popular SRAMs architectures. Then, thedescription of realistic fault models, based on defect injection andSPICE simulation, are introduced. Thereafter, high quality and lowcost test patterns, as well as test strategies for single-port, two-port and any p-port SRAMs are presented, together with somepreliminary test results showing the importance of the new tests inreducing DPM level. The impact of the port restrictions (e.g., read-only ports) on the fault models, tests, and test strategies isalso discussed.Features:

A focus on memory has come to prominence across a wide range of disciplines. History, literature, philosophy, anthropology, and cultural studies have placed memory at the heart of their interrogations of subjectivity, narrative, time and imagination. At the same time, memory has emerged as a central theme and preoccupation in popular literature, film and television, and the emergence of memory as an academic theme cannot be separated from its prominence in the wider culture. This volume represents, explores and interrogates the current developments, engaging directly with the place of memory in culture, and with memory's meaning's and history.

SERIES PREFACE In the Essentials of Behavioral Science series, our goal is to provide readers with books that will deliver key practical information in an efficient, accessible style. The series features books on a variety of topics, such as statistics, psychological testing, and research design and methodology, to name just a few. For the experienced professional, books in the series offer a concise yet thorough review of a specific area of expertise, including numerous tips for best practices. Students can turn to series books for a clear and concise overview of the important topics in which they must become proficient to practice skillfully, efficiently, and ethically in their chosen fields. Wherever feasible, visual cues highlighting key points are utilized alongside systematic, step-by-step guidelines. Chapters are focused and succinct. Topics are organized for an easy understanding of the essential material related to a particular topic. Theory and research are continually woven into the fabric of each book, but always to enhance the practical application of the material, rather than to sidetrack or overwhelm readers. With this series, we aim to challenge and assist readers in the behavioral sciences to aspire to the highest level of competency by arming them with the tools they need for knowledgeable, informed practice. The purposes of Essentials of Research Design and Methodology are to discuss the various types of research designs that are commonly used, the basic process by which research studies are conducted, the research-related considerations of which researchers should be aware, the manner in which the results of research can be interpreted and disseminated, and the typiix TEAM LinG - Live, Informative, Non-cost and Genuine ! cal pitfalls faced by researchers when designing and conducting a research study. This book is ideal for those readers with minimal knowledge of research as well as for those readers with intermediate knowledge who need a quick refresher regarding particular aspects of research design and methodology. For those readers with an advanced knowledge of research design and methodology, this book can be used as a concise summary of basic research techniques and principles, or as an adjunct to a more advanced research methodology and design textbook. Finally, even for those readers who do not conduct research, this book will become a valuable addition to your bookcase because it will assist you in becoming a more educated consumer of research. Being able to evaluate the appropriateness of a research design or the conclusions drawn from a particular research study will become increasingly more important as research becomes more accessible to nonscientists. In that regard, this book will improve your ability to efficiently and effectively digest and understand the results of a research study. Alan S. Kaufman, PhD, and Nadeen L.
