This book captures and communicates the wealth of architecture experience Capgemini has gathered as a member of The Open Group – a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium formed by major industry players – in developing, deploying, and using its “Integrated Architecture Framework” (IAF) since its origination in 1993. Today, many elements of IAF have been incorporated into the new version 9 of TOGAF, the related Open Group standard. The authors, all working on and with IAF for many years, here provide a full reference to IAF and a guide on how to apply it. In addition, they describe in detail the relations between IAF and the architecture standards TOGAF and Archimate and other development or process frameworks like ITIL, CMMI, and RUP. Their presentation is targeted at architects, project managers, and process analysts who have either considered or are already working with IAF – they will find many roadmaps, case studies, checklists, and tips and advice for their daily work.

Interest in agile development continues to grow: the number of practitioners adopting such methodologies is increasing as well as the number of researchers investigating the effectiveness of the different practices and proposing improvements. The XP c- ference series has actively participated in these processes and supported the evolution of Agile, promoting the conference as a place where practitioners and researchers meet to exchange ideas, experiences, and build connections. XP 2010 continued in the tradition of this conference series and provided an int- esting and varied program. As usual, we had a number of different kinds of activities in the conference program including: research papers, experience reports, tutorials, workshops, panels, lightning talks, and posters. These proceedings contain full - search papers, short research papers, and experience reports. Moreover, we have also included in these proceedings the abstracts of the posters, the position papers of the PhD symposium, and the abstract of the panel. This year we had two different program committees for evaluating research papers and experience reports. Each committee included experts in the specific area. This approach allowed us to better evaluate the quality of the papers and provide better suggestions to the authors to improve the quality of their contributions.

The relationship between Canada and France has always been complicated by the Canadian federal government’s relations with Quebec. In this first study of Franco-Canadian relations during the Second World War, Olivier Courteaux demonstrates how Canada’s wartime foreign policy was shaped by the country’s internal divides. As Courteaux shows, Quebec’s vocal nationalist minority came to openly support France’s fascist Vichy regime and resented Canada’s involvement in a ‘British’ war, while English Canada was largely sympathetic to de Gaulle’s Free French movement and accepted its duty to aid embattled Mother Britain. Meanwhile, on the world stage, Canada deftly juggled ties with both French factions to appease Great Britain and the United States before eventually giving full support to the Free French movement. Courteaux concludes this extensively detailed study by illustrating Canada’s vital role in helping France reassert its position on the global stage after 1944. Filled with international intrigue and larger-than-life characters, Canada between Vichy and Free France adds greatly to our comprehension of Canada’s foreign relations and political history.
